Nashua River Valley Folk Festival in Lancaster
    Also, plan ahead: Nashua River Valley  Folk Festival, Aug. 5, with headliner Arlo Guthrie. Programs at the Thayer Memorial Library  library
Step dancing with the Claddagh Kids from the Irish Rhythm School
    On Tuesday evening, March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Thayer Memorial Library in Lancaster Kathy Tamburri & the Claddagh Kids will provide a delightful evening of Irish step and square dancing. The Claddagh Kids, ranging in age from 3 to 17 will perform and demonstrate various dances and give the audience a chance to learn a few steps as well. Instructor Kathy Tamburri will share tidbits of cultural history about the dances throughout the evening. So put on your dancing shoes and celebrate the season. Great for the whole family.

Coyotes
On March 27, at 7 p.m.: John Maguranis loves coyotes and has studied and researched their patterns of behavior here in Massachusetts and New England for many years. John’s power point presentation is packed with information and photographs of coyotes he has taken himself. He also brings a taxidermy coyote. Maguranis has been the Animal Control Officer in Belmont for five years. He has done research for the Eastern Coyote Ecology Project and has been invited by other New England states to educate governmental officials about coyotes. He is eager to answer questions and speak to concerns regarding coyotes. Ages 10 through adult. This program will be held at the Thayer Memorial Library in Lancaster, 717 Main Street, (978) 368-8928.

The Hannigan's Family Fund

     Matt and Maggie Hannigan along with their three children of Lancaster, Massachusetts lost their home on Dec. 25, 2006, to a fire.  The fire destroyed the inside of their home and the house has been condemmed. They will be able to have the insides of the house gutted and rebuilt but it will take three to six months for that to happen.  A fund has been established at the Workers’ Credit Union, 145 Main Street, Lancaster, MA. If you would like to make a donation to The Hannigan’s Family Fund stop by the Workers’ Credit Union or send a check made out to The Hannigan’s Family Fund c/o Workers’ Credit Union, 145 Main Street, Lancaster, MA.   
     A collection, including gift cards, is being also being coordinated by the Lancaster Police Union. Contributions can be sent to the police union at
    MCOP #202, Lancaster Police Union, care of the Hannigan Fund, Box 337, Lancaster, Mass. 01523,  or dropped off at the police station.



Special occasion cards to benefit Item Appeal
     Cards are now on sale, with proceeds to benefit the Item Appeal.
      The cards include birthday, thanks and other special occasion cards and were donated by Dunn and Company/Legacy, ensuring that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Item Appeal.
      The cards are $5 for a box of 15 or 50 cents for individual cards. Cards are currently on sale at the Item office, 156 Church St., Clinton. For more information, e-mail clintonitem@yahoo.com
   The Item Appeal appreciates donations, which are used to help your neighbors who need asistance with food, fuel and rent. The Appeal works year-round, but during the winter the need is especially great given the rising fuel costs.

Special Town Meeting Continued
    The Special Town Meeting held Monday, Oct. 16, was continued to Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Mary Rowlandson School Auditorium. The meeting was continued to allow hearings on several articles regarding zoning changes.Results from Town Clerk

Land added to preservation
The Friends of the Oxbow Wildlife Refuge celebrated (see photos) at the annual meeting Oct. 15. The reason? The purchase of 50 acres of land from the Kristoff family, sold to the state for preservation. The Lancaster Land Trust and the Friends of the Oxbow worked with the family to keep the land in preservation.
